President Donald Trump will survive the special counsel Robert Mueller report because Fox News exists, CNN legal senior analyst Jeffrey Toobin theorized Wednesday.

"There's . . . the incredibly reliable presence of Fox News," Toobin told Mediate founder Dan Abrams during an appearance on SiriusXM. "I don't think Sean Hannity's going to read Robert Mueller's report and go, 'Hmmm . . . I think he's got some good points there.' Fox News exists to ratify the biases of the people who already watch."

Mueller is finalizing his investigation into the Russian government's efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election. Mueller's team is also probing whether Trump's campaign team colluded with the Russians and if the president committed an impeachable offense for allegedly paying hush money to several women during the campaign.

Mueller is said to be close to completing his probe.

Toobin says Fox News is a significant force and agreed with talk show host Geraldo Rivera that President Richard Nixon would have survived Watergate if Fox News existed in 1974.

"There was no Fox News in 1974 . . . I did a profile of [Rep.] Adam Schiff [D-Calif.] for The New Yorker. He's been reading about Watergate, for obvious reasons, he's been interested. And he thinks that the difference in the Republican party, and the existence of Fox News, really makes comparisons between the two not valid," Toobin added.
