Black support for President Trump's position on illegal immigraton is growing.
Black and white Democrats — and the media — won’t admit it, but one of the most noteworthy points the president made in his recent Oval Office speech was that "uncontrolled, illegal immigration . . . drives down jobs and wages (and that) among those hardest hits are African-Americans and Hispanic Americans."
He's absolutely right.
The major media won’t tell you, but, as noted below, there are many blacks who agree!
What's so amazing about the pro-illegal immigrants posture by Democrats is the silence of most black civil rights and political leaders on the negative impact of illegal immigration — on their own communities.
It's clear that they have joined with their liberal white Democrat colleagues in assuring that the cause of illegal immigrants takes precedence over the needs and interests of black Americans — whose ancestors came to this country in chains.
That illegal immigration hurts American low and unskilled workers is not a new revelation.
Testimony before the U.S. Civil Rights Commission over a decade ago by Vernon M. Briggs Jr., of the Center for Immigration Studies — "Illegal Immigration: The Impact on Wages and Employment of Black Workers," said in part:
"Because most illegal immigrants overwhelmingly seek work in the low skilled labor market and because the black American labor force is so disproportionately concentrated in this same low wage sector, there is little doubt that there is significant overlap in competition for jobs in this sector of the labor market . . . it is obvious that the major looser in this competition are low skilled black workers."
Today, as the economy attains new heights under Trump policies in 2018, wage growth at 3.2 percent is bringing people who had stopped looking for work off the sidelines and into the job market. And with black unemployment at all-time lows, black civil rights leaders and politicians — and their white progressive counterparts — want to open the flood gates to illegal immigrants who will then compete with black and Hispanic American citizens.
Jobs are not the only issue.
Project 21, an organization of black conservative leaders, supports the president’s "strong enforcement policies intended to stop the unfair strain on public services caused by illegal immigration."
Its report, "Blueprint for a Better Deal for Black America" states that programs funded through taxes are being "reduced or unavailable to black Americans in too many communities due to illegal residents taking advantage of them."
Project 21 is not the only group of black Americans supporting Trump on the issue.
My questsin Insider colleague, Dr. Alveda C. King, writing in her blog, "African-American Leaders Unite Around Wall to Help Avoid Looming Crisis," is joined by a half-dozen major black leaders, in "standing with President Trump in the battle for the soul of America."
Just as they do not seem to care about the impact of illegal immigration on black and Hispanic Americans, congressional Democrats (like their allies in the media) appear to have more empathy for illegal immigrants and those amongst them who kill Americans than for the victims and their families.
The nation was saddened when California police officer Cpl. Ronil Singh, a 33-year-old legal immigrant from Fiji, was shot to death Dec. 26, 2018 by an illegal immigrant and known gang member.
To the best of my knowledge, neither the two Democratic California Senators, Diane Feinstein and Kamala Harris, or U.S. House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi, also a California Democrat, called or sent condolences to his family.
The president did.
Speaker Pelosi, Sen. Schumer and their media allies say the president was making up a crisis when he spoke of the "20,000 migrant children illegally brought into the United States" last month used as "human pawns . . ., "or the fact that women and children "are the biggest victims . . ., " or that "One in three women are sexually assaulted on the dangerous trek up through Mexico."
Whether it relates to the negative impact of illegal immigration on black employment, concern for the victims of criminal illegal immigrants, or the dangers it poses to women and children in so-called caravans, these pro-illegal immigration-anti-wall Democrats are hypocrites. For they remain silent on illegal immigrant’s crimes and support and encourage sanctuary cities to protect them while many of them, as the president said, "build walls, fences, and gates around their homes."
Democrats not only want to protect illegal immigrants. They want to put them at the front of the bus to compete for benefits at state and local taxpayers’ expense while they throw blacks and victims under that bus.
For example, Calif. Gov. Gavin Newsome, a Democrat, proposes a state funded health program to cover 138,000 young illegal immigrants. His Democratic cohort across the country, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, is proposing a $100 million program to provide health coverage to all New Yorkers including approximately 300,000 illegal immigrants.
Speaker Pelosi and her anti-wall supporters say the wall is "immoral" — selective morality at its best!
Nothing said about the immorality of the murder of Cpl. Singh; the killing of Pierce Corcoran, the 22-year-old son of a Knoxville fire captain by an illegal immigrant; the murders of innocent children by MS-13 gang members; or, the fact that the border is a pipeline for illegal drugs that are killing Americans.
You can bet that if, God forbid, Pelosi, Schumer, Harris, Newsom, de Blasio or a hate-Trump media anchor’s spouse, partner, son, daughter, or grandchild were harmed by an illegal immigrant, or suffered from a drug overdose, they would support building the wall in a millisecond!
The president should have a press conference featuring the families of victims of illegal immigrants to show the faces of grief to America to remind the nation, Democrats, and the media of just what's at stake.
